Option 2: Via Lombok

Traveling through Lombok is another scenic way to reach West Sumbawa.
Step 1: Flight to Lombok
Travelers can fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP) from various Indonesian cities. From the airport, a taxi ride to Kayangan Port on Lombok’s east coast costs around IDR 400,000.
Step 2: Ferry to Sumbawa
At Kayangan Port, three options are available for crossing to Sumbawa:

PUBLIC FERRY:

  • Departs hourly and reaches Poto Tano Port in West Sumbawa in approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Affordable and widely used, but expect basic facilities.

FAST BOAT:

  • Operates twice daily and offers a quicker crossing.
  • Advance booking is recommended, as schedules can vary.

Upon arrival in Sumbawa (via ferry or speed boat), a short drive will bring you to your destination. For those using the public or fast ferry, transfers from Poto Tano Port to resort can be arranged for IDR 450,000 per vehicle.
This option offers flexibility and unique experiences, whether you prefer a budget-friendly ferry ride or a speed boat transfer.

PRIVATE SPEED BOAT:

For ultimate convenience, book a private speed boat that goes directly to Whales & Waves Beach Resort.
  • Duration: Around 40−60 minutes.
  • Price: Approximately $ 500 USD per one-way trip (includes transfer from the airport to the port for 1 car / max 4 people). Extra cars can also be arranged.
  • Capacity: Maximum 15 people per boat, making it an ideal option for small surf groups.

This is the fastest and most cost-effective option for traveling from Bali to Sumbawa. If your flight from Bali — Lombok departs at 8:30 AM, you can arrive at Whales & Waves Beach by 11:00 AM, saving valuable time to enjoy the surf and scenery.

Option 3: Overland Journey from Bali

For adventurous travelers, an overland trip from bali involves:
Drive to Padang Bai
Located on Bali’s east coast, Padang Bai is the departure point for ferries to Lombok.
Ferry to Lembar, Lombok
The public ferry crossing takes about 5 hours, with tickets costing approximately IDR 1,200,000 for a car and passengers.
Drive Across Lombok
A 2-hour journey leads to Kayangan Port.
Ferry to Poto Tano, Sumbawa
This 1.5-hour crossing costs around IDR 570,000 for a car with passengers.
Drive to West Sumbawa
Follow signs to Kertasari village to reach Whales & Waves resort.
